What Is SVG?
SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics. Instead of storing pixels, an SVG file stores shapes, lines, colours and text as code. A browser reads that code and draws the image at any size, so an SVG logo stays sharp on a small phone screen and on a large banner.
Designers use SVG for logos, icons, illustrations, charts and website graphics. The format is light and easy to edit in tools such as Illustrator, Inkscape and Figma. However, many programs cannot open SVG files. Word processors, presentation tools, email clients, messaging apps and most social media platforms expect a normal image such as PNG or JPG. That is when you need to convert SVG to PNG.
How to Convert SVG to PNG in 3 Steps
Our SVG to PNG converter follows three simple steps.
Step 1: Add Your SVG Files
Open the SVG to PNG converter and click the Browse button, or drag your .svg files into the upload area. You can add up to 20 files at once, with a maximum size of 15 MB per file.
Step 2: Choose the Size and Convert
Choose the image size: Original uses the width and height saved in the SVG, while 2× and 4× make the PNG two or four times larger. Larger sizes are useful for print, presentations and high-resolution screens. Click Convert to start. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.
Step 3: Download Your PNG Images
Click Download to save the PNG. If you converted several SVG files, you can download each image separately or all of them together as a ZIP file.
SVG vs PNG: Vector vs Image
The main difference between SVG and PNG is how the picture is stored.
An SVG is a vector file. It describes shapes mathematically, so you can scale it up or down without losing quality. A PNG is a raster image. It stores a fixed grid of pixels, so it looks sharp at its own size but becomes blurry if you enlarge it too much. This is why our converter lets you export at 2× or 4×: choose the largest size you will need before you convert.
| Feature | SVG | PNG |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Vector graphics (code) | Raster image (pixels) |
| Scaling | Sharp at any size | Sharp up to its pixel size |
| Transparency | Supported | Supported |
| Editing | Shapes and text can be edited | Edited pixel by pixel |
| Support | Browsers and design software | Almost every app, device and website |
| Best use | Logos and icons on websites | Documents, presentations, apps and social media |
Both formats support transparency. When you convert SVG to PNG with our tool, transparent areas of the SVG stay transparent in the PNG.
File size works differently too. A simple SVG icon can be just a few kilobytes at any size, while a PNG grows as you add pixels. A 4× PNG is sixteen times the area of the original, so pick the size you actually need.
When to Use PNG Instead of SVG
Keep the SVG as your master file, and create a PNG when a program or platform does not accept vector files. Common examples include:
- Adding a logo to a Word document, Google Doc or PowerPoint presentation.
- Uploading an icon or profile image to social media or a messaging app.
- Sending a graphic by email to someone who has no design software.
- Using an image in an app store listing, marketplace or online form that only accepts PNG or JPG.
- Sharing a preview of a design with a client.
For photos, use our JPG to PNG converter, and for images saved from websites, our WebP to JPG converter. To turn images into a document, use our JPG to PDF converter.
Open our SVG to PNG converter, click Browse and select your SVG file. Choose Original, 2× or 4× size, click Convert and then Download to save the PNG image.
Add the SVG file and choose the size. With Original, the PNG uses the width and height defined in the SVG file; if the SVG has no width and height, the converter uses its viewBox. Choose 2× or 4× for a larger, sharper image, then click Convert.
Convert the file with our tool and click Download. Transparent areas in the SVG remain transparent in the PNG, so a logo without a background stays without a background.
Upload the SVG, click Convert and download the PNG. If the SVG links to fonts or images stored somewhere else, browsers do not load those external files when they draw an SVG as an image, so a default font is used instead. Convert text to outlines or embed the images in the SVG before you convert it.
Add up to 20 SVG files, choose the size and click Convert. You can download every PNG separately or all of them together as a ZIP file. The tool is free and works in any modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone.
