What BMP is
BMP is the old Windows bitmap format. It stores the picture with almost no compression, so files are huge for their size — a simple screenshot can be several megabytes — and many websites will not accept BMP at all.
How to convert BMP to JPG
- Add your BMP files: drag them onto the page, browse for them, or copy and paste.
- Press "Convert to JPG".
- Download the JPG images to your device.
Good to know
- A photo that is 1 MB as a JPG can be 10 MB or more as a BMP. Converting is the quickest way to make old Windows images usable again.
- JPG is made for photos. If your BMP is a screenshot or diagram with sharp text, check the JPG at full size — very fine edges can soften slightly.
BMP barely compresses anything, so every pixel is stored almost in full. Newer formats like JPG keep the picture and throw away what your eye would not notice, which is why they are so much smaller.
Yes, to the eye it looks the same. BMP is exact and uncompressed, and a good-quality JPG keeps the picture looking identical while being far smaller.
Most upload forms only allow JPG and PNG, and BMP files are large. Converting to JPG makes the same picture upload in seconds.
Up to 20 files at once, and up to 15 MB per file.
Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your web browser, so your files stay on your device. You don't need an account, so there is nothing to sign in to or clear afterwards.
