What HEIF is
HEIF stands for High Efficiency Image File Format — the modern photo format that stores high-quality pictures in much less space. HEIC is the version Apple uses inside HEIF, so iPhone photos are HEIF files too. Many Windows PCs, websites and older apps still cannot open them.
Is JPEG the same as JPG?
Yes. JPEG is the full name of the format and JPG is its short file extension — the images are exactly the same. This page exists because some cameras, phones and upload forms ask for "JPEG" by name.
Which format should you pick?
- JPEG if you need the photo to open everywhere and stay small — for sharing, forms and printing.
- PNG if you want the exact pixels: screenshots, logos, text and anything you plan to edit again. See HEIF to PNG.
How to convert HEIF to JPEG
- Add your HEIF or HEIC photos: drag them onto the page, browse for them, or copy and paste.
- Press "Convert to JPEG".
- Download the JPEG images to your device.
HEIF is the standard, and HEIC is the flavour Apple uses inside it. For converting, treat them the same — this tool accepts both.
They are the same format. JPG is just the shorter file extension. Use whichever name the app, camera or form in front of you asks for.
JPEG files are a little smaller and the difference is hard to see. PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it was, at the cost of a bigger file.
Up to 20 files at once, and up to 15 MB per file.
Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your web browser, so your files stay on your device. You don't need an account, so there is nothing to sign in to or clear afterwards.
