What HEIC is
HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default. It keeps photos small without dropping quality, but many Windows PCs, websites and older apps still cannot open it.
Is JPEG the same as JPG?
Yes. JPEG is the full name of the format and JPG is its short file extension — the images are exactly the same. This page exists because some cameras, phones and upload forms ask for "JPEG" by name.
Which format should you pick?
- JPEG if you need the photo to open everywhere and stay small — for sharing, forms and printing.
- PNG if you want the exact pixels: screenshots, logos, text and anything you plan to edit again. See HEIC to PNG.
How to convert HEIC to JPEG
- Add your HEIC or HEIF photos: drag them onto the page, browse for them, or copy and paste.
- Press "Convert to JPEG".
- Download the JPEG images to your device.
HEIC to JPEG on Windows and Mac
Windows often shows HEIC photos as blank icons until you install an extension. Convert a photo here instead and it opens in any app. On a Mac, Preview can open HEIC, but converting a whole trip of photos one by one is slow, so converting them here in one go is faster.
They are the same format. JPG is just the shorter file extension. Use whichever name the app, camera or form in front of you asks for.
iPhones save photos as HEIC to take up less space. It is a newer format, so older software and some websites cannot open it yet, which is why people convert it.
JPEG files are a little smaller and the difference is hard to see. PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it was, at the cost of a bigger file.
Up to 20 files at once, and up to 15 MB per file.
Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your web browser, so your files stay on your device. You don't need an account, so there is nothing to sign in to or clear afterwards.
