What GIF is
GIF is the short-loop format the web has used for decades — memes, reactions and simple animations. It only holds 256 colours, which is fine for small graphics but not great for photos.
Is JPEG the same as JPG?
Yes. JPEG is the full name of the format and JPG is its short file extension — the images are exactly the same. This page exists because some cameras, phones and upload forms ask for "JPEG" by name.
Which format should you pick?
- JPEG gives you a small still image that opens everywhere — good for sharing a frame or using the picture in a document.
- PNG keeps transparency and exact pixels — better if the GIF is a logo or graphic you plan to edit. See GIF to PNG.

They are the same format. JPG is just the shorter file extension. Use whichever name the app, camera or form in front of you asks for.

Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your web browser, so your files stay on your device. You don't need an account, so there is nothing to sign in to or clear afterwards.
