What Is BMP?

BMP stands for Bitmap Image File. It is a raster image format that Microsoft introduced for Windows, which is why BMP files are common in older Windows programs, screenshots, scanners and technical software. A BMP file stores the colour of every pixel, usually with no compression or only simple compression.

Because so little compression is applied, BMP images keep every pixel exactly as it was saved. The downside is size: a BMP file is often many times larger than a JPG or PNG of the same picture. Many websites, email services and document portals also do not accept BMP uploads.

PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It keeps the page layout the same on every device and opens in any PDF reader or web browser. Converting BMP to PDF turns an image file into a document that is easier to send, print and store.

How to Convert BMP to PDF in 3 Steps

Our BMP to PDF converter follows the same three steps as every tool on the site.

Step 1: Upload Your BMP Files

Click the Browse button and select one or more .bmp files from your computer, phone or tablet. You can also drag the files into the upload area. You can add up to 20 images at once, with a maximum size of 15 MB per file.

Step 2: Convert BMP to PDF

Choose your options if you need them. Output lets you combine all images into one PDF or make a separate PDF for each image. Page size can follow the image size, or use A4 or Letter pages, and Margin adds a small white border. Then click the Convert button. When you make one PDF, you can drag the images to change the page order first.

Step 3: Download Your PDF

Click Download to save the PDF. If you created several PDFs, you can download each file separately or all of them together as a ZIP file. Open the PDF to check the pages before you share or print it.

Why Convert BMP to PDF?

Large Files Become Easier to Handle

A BMP screenshot or scan can easily reach several megabytes. Placing the images in a PDF gives you one document instead of a folder of separate bitmap files, which is simpler to attach, upload and archive.

Easier Sharing

PDF opens on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone without extra software. A recipient who cannot open BMP files can still view the PDF in a browser or PDF reader.

Accepted by Forms and Portals

Job applications, university portals and official forms often ask for PDF documents. Converting a BMP scan of a certificate, receipt or ID copy to PDF lets you submit it in the requested format.

Ready for Printing

PDF is a reliable format for office printers and print shops. Choose A4 or Letter pages so the image fits the paper you print on.

Several Images in One Document

Combine multiple BMP files into one multi-page PDF, for example scanned pages of a form or a series of screenshots, and keep them in the right order.

BMP vs PDF

BMP and PDF have different jobs. BMP is a simple image format that stores pixels, while PDF is a document format that can hold images, text and several pages.

Open our BMP to PDF converter, click Browse and select your BMP file. Click Convert, then click Download to save the PDF to your device. The conversion takes place in your web browser, so there is nothing to install.

Add your BMP images to the upload area, choose whether you want one PDF or separate PDFs, select a page size and click Convert. When the PDF is ready, download it with the Download button.

You can do it on a computer or a phone. On an Android phone or iPhone, open this page in your browser, tap Browse and choose the BMP file from your files or gallery. Tap Convert and then Download. The PDF is saved to your phone.

Upload the BMP, click Convert and download the PDF. The converter places your image in the PDF without lowering its resolution. Choose Fit image as the page size if you want each page to match the image exactly. A small or low-resolution BMP will still look the same in the PDF, because conversion cannot add detail that the original image does not have.

Use our free BMP to PDF converter: upload the file, click Convert and then Download. It is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark. You can convert up to 20 BMP files at once, each up to 15 MB.
